| 1988 Mazda RX7 Turbo Grassroots Motorsports $2005 Challenge Winner!
This is a custom 1988 Mazda RX7. This car started life as a 10th Anniversary 1988 Mazda RX7 Turbo. The engine was disassembled and put in boxes as the car was prepared for SCCA racing. Custom struts and springs were installed, and then the car sat. It was purchased by Jeremy Butts and Mark "Skip" Kleckner. They then built the car up the Grassroots Motorsports magazine $2004 challenge in 2004. The drive-train was swapped over to a Mustang 5.0l V-8 with a Holley carb and a Mustang T5 5 speed Transmission. The car finished third in 2004 with N2O, and was run again in the 2005 challenge, where is won outright. It was also featured as the COVER CAR on their August 2005 edition. The Grassroots Motorsports challenge is a competition that includes a drag race, an autocross and a concours. You must build a car that's fast, handles well, and looks good, and this beauty does all three. It won the concours, placed 3rd in the drag race (pulling an amazing 11.676 sec on a 125 shot of Nitrous and drag tires, neither of which are included with the car), and placed 8th in the autocross. We purchased this car in 2004, and it can now be found Autocrossing in the Twin Cities at many of the MAC events.
Performance: The engine sits on rubber engine mounts, and runs very smooth. It has run a 13.0sec. quarter mile without Nitrous, and 11.67 with a 125 shot of Nitrous. Exterior Photos: COMING SOON!
